Learn to Drive with TAC L2P

From Learner driver to P-plates. That’s the road to freedom.

L2P is the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) learner driver program. TAC L2P helps young Learner drivers get the 120 hours on the road they need for their Probationary Licence – P plates.

Conditions apply. To join the program you:

  • Already have a Learner Licence (L plates)

  • Are aged 16 to 21

  • Do not have access to a supervising driver

  • OR do not have a suitable car to learn in

  • Live in Darebin council area.

In some circumstances, we will consider learners up to 23 years of age. Contact us to find out more.

Unsure if you have access to a supervising driver, suitable car or if you are eligible? Contact us to discuss.

If you’re accepted into the TAC L2P Program, DIVRS will be responsible for your participation and ongoing advice.

The TAC L2P Program is funded by the TAC, administered by the Department of Transport and coordinated by DIVRS

How IT WORKS

Our program matches learners with a car and a mentor driver to help you gain driving experience.

Before being matched with a mentor driver - and throughout your L2P course - you can get several free driving lessons with a professional driving instructor. This helps you build skills through the four stages of the Graduated Licensing System:

Stage 1 – Basic car control
Stage 2 – Quiet streets
Stage 3 – Complex traffic
Stage 4 – Rehearsing solo

GIVE IT A GO

Being able to drive is a big deal. But if you don’t have a car to learn in, and you don’t have anyone to teach you, you are stuck in the passenger seat. Get behind the wheel in a way that is safe, no pressure and free.

HOW TO APPLY

You must apply through the L2P Page on the TAC L2P website. You will need to create a myVicRoads account.

Exemptions may be granted to learners unable to apply online. You can request a paper-based application form by emailing the Department of Transport and Planning via email at L2P@transport.vic.gov.au.

Once the application form is received, we will be in contact to go through next steps.

Becoming an L2P Driver Mentor

The TAC L2P Program doesn’t just benefit learner drivers.

By volunteering as a driving mentor, you become part of the fantastic DIVRS volunteer team. You can also build up your own training, driving and mentoring skills.

The TAC L2P program focuses on helping young people become safe, confident drivers. The long-term aim is to reduce Victoria’s road toll.

It also provides an opportunity for young drivers to interact with positive adult role models, gain confidence and move towards independence.

committment to child safety

DIVRS is a child-safe organisation. All children or young people who attend services, programs and events delivered by, and spaces managed by, DIVRS have the right to feel and be safe. We have zero tolerance of child abuse. We are committed to creating and maintaining a safe and empowering environment where protecting children and preventing and responding to child abuse is embedded in our culture.

All our staff and volunteers must complete police checks and hold a valid and current Working with Children Check.
