Find the Best Energy Deal

One of the easiest ways to reduce energy costs is to compare energy offers.

Best Offer

The easiest way you can find a cheaper energy offer is by switching to your energy company’s Best Offer.

Energy companies must now tell you if they have a cheaper energy plan available for your home. This is based on how you currently use electricity and gas.

The Best Offer Notice will be included on the front of your energy bill every 3 months for electricity bills and every 4 months for gas bills.

Look for a box that says, `Could you save money on a cheaper plan?’.

It’s easy to get on your company’s best offer and save money with the Cheaper Energy Plans factsheet.

Sometimes the best offer might be with a different provider. The easiest way to compare offers is at Victorian Energy Compare. This simple tool will help you compare electricity offers, gas offers and solar savings.

MAKING THE SWITCH

Contact the company with the best offer for you. After choosing to switch, your new retailer will take care of everything for you, including notifying your current retailer.

What happens if you don’t want to choose

If shopping around and looking for the best deal is not for you, there is an energy plan to help. The Victorian Default Offer (VDO) is the government’s fair price for electricity. You can call your energy company and ask to be put on the government’s VDO. The price of the VDO is the same price, no matter which company you buy your electricity from.

If you think you might be eligible for any concessions, call your energy company and explain your situation. If you’re eligible, they’ll talk you through how to apply.

Make sure your concessions are up to date and are applied to your account. It is best to do this with your company every 12 months.

If you’re unsure if your energy company has all your concessions listed on your account, call them to check. If you’ve missed out on claiming any concessions, your energy company can back-date them for the last 12 months.

Available concessions for each card type are can be found here.
