What is a no interest loan?
The No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) is an interest free loan of up to $1,000 for people living in the City of Darebin who are on a low income. There are no fees or charges associated with NILS.

What can you obtain a loan for?
Loans are available for goods and some services that you need but cannot otherwise afford, such as:

  • White goods
  • Electrical goods
  • Health and medical costs
  • Furniture and bedding
  • Car repairs and other associated costs
  • School fees, etc

How much can you borrow?
The maximum loan value is $1,000 per family.
Repayments will be calculated so that they are affordable and pay the loan off within 12 to 18 months.

How do I pay back the loan?
Repayments are made using Centrepay if you are receiving Centrelink payments.
Loan repayments are every 2 weeks as per the Loan Agreement.

To be eligible for a loan you must:

  • Hold a current health care card or be able to demonstrate that you live on a low income.
  • Live in the City of Darebin.
  • Have a suitable need.
  • Have the financial ability to repay the loan.
